What Is Your Role?

Picture
Running Troop 649 would not be possible without the help of dedicated adults and parents.  There are many roles that we look to our adults to help with; here are just a few.
  • Assistant Scoutmaster of a Patrol
  • Merit Badge Counselor for an area you have knowledge of
  • Committee Member
  • Scoutmaster or Committee Chairman
  • District Committee

Youth Protection

We take the protection of our youth as a serious matter.  Any adult who wishes to participate with the troop will be asked to submit an Adult Application and take our Youth Protection Training (YPT) annually.  By following the guidelines in YPT we are able to provide a safe environment for the development of the youth in the troop.

Boy-Led Troop

It is important that we provide learning opportunities for the youth of the Troop to develop their leadership skills.  As a result, there are times when things will get a little chaotic, and that is a great thing.

We would ask the adults to identify opportunities, allow things to be crazy while being safe, and offer coaching to the youth leader after the fact.  This allows the boy to see the consequences of when it went wrong, and many times provides the desire to learn a different way for the next situation.

Getting Involved

A healthy troop cannot run without the help of its adult leaders.  There is always room for a willing adult to contribute to the Troop's success.

See any of the current Troop leadership, scouts and adults, and they will help you get an application to get the process started, or download the application from the FORMS AND LINKS page.
