Endless Possibilities

One of the biggest challenges for the adults and parents of the Troop is to allow the Scouts the opportunity to lead, fail, learn and grow.  Prior to their Boy Scout experience, most boys are just participants in programs.  School, sports, clubs and groups up to this point required them to just show up and participate.

Now we are asking them to run the show, plan the events, conduct the meetings, and this challenge requires growth.  Unless there is a potential of harm or injury, adults allow the Scouts to conduct their meeting, outing, or program. Opportunities to coach and teach present themselves as part of the chaos that happens in the process.  The Scouts learn from circumstances and each other more than they do from lectures.  We welcome the chaos as a chance to help each grow and develop.

Resource For You

Our hope is that the following pages will help you to explore and understand Troop 649.  We can't possibly answer every question, but have covered some of the biggest questions that new parents and Scouts ask when joining Boy Scouts.  Once you have explored these pages, please join us and ask more questions.  We look forward to getting to know you and your scout.

Our History

Troop 649 has been sponsored by the Shift Church in Belgrade, Montana since its original charter February 10th, 1950.  In that time, we have been part of the lives of hundreds of families in Belgrade and around the valley.  The troop has seen 55 scouts reach the highest rank of Eagle during that time as well.
